ESPL Mission Statement
East St. Paul Lutheran School:
- provides excellent Christian education,
- surrounds children with Christ’s love and forgiveness,
- partners with family, church and community.
Dear Parents,
The teaching ministry is a responsibility which we take very seriously. God has called us with a holy calling and has entrusted into our hands the care and instruction of your children — His precious lambs. With God’s help we pledge to do our very best to carry out His command to “bring up a child in the way that he should go.” We ask for your help and cooperation as we work together in meeting His command.
When we err, please forgive us. When we have said something inappropriate, or have failed to affirm, or have not lived up to your expectations, please inform us directly and firmly but in a spirit of Christian love and concern. We ask that you respect us in conversations with your spouse, child(ren), friends and relatives. Please put the best construction on every matter and remind us to do the same.
In your words and in your prayers support and encourage us, so that there will be much joy in our partnership of working together to instruct those so dear to God, to you, and to us.
Your called servants in Christ,
The ESPL faculty
Philosophy of Christian Education
Christian learning and worship of the Triune God are central to the curriculum of East St. Paul Lutheran School (ESPL). Therefore, we subscribe to the following principles of teaching and learning:
- We apply principles of Christian relationships to all teaching. Methods of instruction are consistent with our understanding of God’s will for our relationships to Him and the relationships of respect for teacher to student and student to teacher. Both students and teachers view themselves as worthwhile people, have a positive regard for other people, and relate to others in a courteous manner.
- We seek to establish a learning environment in which both students and teachers approach learning with confidence and success. Effective teaching is directly related to time on task. Therefore, good stewardship of school time is effective when teachers plan and carry out activities to maximize the time on task and students cooperate with the teacher’s plans. Each student is given an opportunity for meaningful learning experiences whereby he/she can grow educationally according to his/her God-given ability.
- We affirm the importance of both motivation and self-discipline in learning. The instructional process should stimulate student interest in learning and provide positive methods or reinforcement. Students are expected to develop study habits that will represent cooperation and personal responsibility for studies.
- The learning of all subjects occurs within the context of Christian understanding. All teaching at ESPL shall be in accord with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.
